Humanizing Homelessness: Making Eye Contact with the Homeless

Experience of a LifetimeOn Thursday, April 3, the Senior Community Centers of San Diego will host Experience of a Lifetime—an exhibition that features photographs of homeless seniors taken by Derek Slevin, a Rancho Bernardo-based photographer.

For the past three years, Slevin has been on a mission to capture touching and profound photos of the homeless across the country in efforts to generate a sense of understanding, human connection, awareness, and sensitivity toward the homeless.

“We get so used to seeing homeless people that we maybe forget that these are people that experience pain; they experience joy; they’re living, breathing, feeling people,” said Slevin in an interview.

Experience of a Lifetime will include a gallery, wine, vendors, and an auction. The funds raised from this event will be used for meals for homeless seniors.
