On October 17th 2013, the Leadership Team on the Campaign to End Homelessness in Downtown San Diego convened a meeting to share updates and action items. Jennifer Davies and colleagues from the Downtown San Diego Partnership gave a presentation on their integrated outreach efforts in downtown. This collaborative effort includes several agencies such as Alpha Project, Connections Housing, Downtown San Diego Partnership, San Diego City Attorney’s Office, and San Diego Police’s Homeless Outreach Team. The team reported success in taking a substantial amount of homeless individuals off the streets and placing them into shelter programs, such as Connections Housing interim beds, and the City’s Winter Shelter Program. The Downtown San Diego Partnership is now targeting areas in East Village and Children’s Park and expanding their outreach efforts to continue the work of getting our homeless neighbors into permanent supportive housing and services if needed. Their presentation is available for review, and can be found here.
