On May 2, Secretary Shaun Donovan of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced $72 million in Round 2Continuum of Care (CoC) Program Awards. His announcement renewed funding for more than 500 local homeless programs across the country. These awards include more than $10 million in funding for programs in California. Although San Diego did not receive Round 2 funds, the region was successful in receiving its full allocation of $15 million in Round 1, as we reported in March. This was part of $1.5 billion awarded in Round 1 CoC program funds nation-wide.
The CoC Program provides funding on a competitive basis for transitional and permanent housing and supportive services. A third and final round of grants will be made by HUD later this year for new projects. For a complete list of projects awarded funding in Rounds 1 and 2, visit the HUD website.
