New “Welcome Home” Program Assists its First Veterans

Recently, the first of many formerly homeless veterans benefitted from a new program called Team AMVETS: Welcome Home. The program is a partnership between U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) and the American Veterans (AMVETS) Department of California Service Foundation, and donates furniture, appliances and other household items to individuals assisted by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) federal housing voucher program. These services provide crucial support for those looking to rebuild their lives, as many newly housed are moving into empty apartments.

AMVETS has been a critical resource to the Campaign as well, providing Move-in Kits for several veterans housed through our Phase 2 “Blitz Week” efforts. TheTeam AMVETS: Welcome Home program will begin in the San Diego and Long Beach areas and is expected to expand to other areas of Southern California soon. We are thrilled to see this program grow and to continue to help many others in the process of “making a house a home.”
