Both newly elected Mayor Bob Filner and City Council President Todd Gloria have made ending homelessness a priority for their coming terms, as evidenced their recent remarks:
- Just days before the Mayoral Inauguration, Mayor Filner was quoted saying, “Frankly, I want to be the first city in the country that eliminates homelessness…I think we can do it.”
- Council President Gloria spoke to the importance of addressing homelessness during his swearing-in speech, stating: “I can now see a day when we have ended homelessness in Downtown, where it has its strongest hold. I am committed to achieving this goal in the next four years.”
We look forward to a strong and continued partnership with San Diego’s civic leaders as we take our efforts and strategies to scale and end homelessness in the region.
